Boxing Results: Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo & Jaron “Boots” Ennis Win By KO!

By Ken Hissner: At the Dignity Sports Park, Carson, California, Saturday over Showtime, Premier Boxing Champions presented in the Main Event in a rematch since their draw in July for the unified world title WBC, WBA & IBF World Super Welterweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo stopped WBO World Super Welterweight champion Brian Carlos Castano in the tenth round.

In the co-feature, unbeaten welterweight Jaron “Boots” Ennis stopped previously unbeaten Custio “War Machine” Clayton in two rounds, continuing to be the most avoided in his division. He scored his nineteenth stoppage in his last twenty fights, including one no contest.

In the Main Event, WBC, WBA & IBF World Super Welter champ Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo, 35-1-1 (19), #152 ¾, of Richmond, TX, stopped WBO World Super Welter champ Brian Carlos Castano, 17-1-2 (12), #153 ¾, of Isidro Casanova, Buenos Aires, ARG, at 2:33 of the tenth round of a 12.

In the first round, most of Costano’s rights fall shortcoming forward as Charlo goes to the body. Castano landed an overhand right in the second round while Charlo countered with a right hand. In the third round, Castano came back well enough to take the round.

In the fourth round, Castano walks into the power of Charlo. It went back and forth in the fifth round, ending the round in a heated exchange from both.

Castano kept coming forward, jabbing and landing rights in the sixth round, while Charlo responded with his own rights. In the eighth round, Castano kept the pressure on the taller Charlo landing more, especially with his jabs. In the tenth round’s final minute, a short left hook from Charlo on the chin and down went Costano taking an 8-count from Referee Jerry Cantu. Upon beating the count, he was dropped again by a Charlo left hook to the body ending the fight being waved over by Referee Cantu.

In the co-feature, the most avoided fighter in the division, Jaron “Boots” Ennis, 29-0-1nc (27), #146 ¼, of Philadelphia, PA, stopped Custio “War Machine” Clayton, 19-1-1 (12), #146 ½, of Ottawa, Ontario, CAN, at 2:49 of the second round of a scheduled 12 rounds IBF title eliminator.

In the second round, Ennis landed a pair of jabs, following with a devastating overhand right on the side of the head of ducking Clayton, and down he went. He beat the count but stumbled toward the ropes as Referee Ray Corona wisely waved it off.

Super Bantam Kevin “Chacal” Gonzalez, 25-0-1 (13), #121, of Culiacon, Sinaloa, MEX, in a war defeated Emanuel “Bevo” Rivera, 19-3 (12), #121 ¾, of Toa Baja, PR, over 10 rounds.

It went back and forth in an all-action fight in the first three rounds. In the sixth round, Rivera was rocked by Gonzalez in the final seconds, which is the stronger of the two.

In the ninth round, Gonzalez had a slight edge in what had been an all-action fight. In the tenth and final round, Rivera rocked Gonzalez with a right on the chin at the halfway point. In the end, Rivera did enough to take the round. The referee was Gerard White.

Scores were 96-94, 97-93, and 98-92, with this writer 97-93.

Jan Blachowicz wins after Aleksandar Rakic suffers devastating knee injury at UFC Vegas 54

Jan Blachowicz was looking to chop down Aleksandar Rakic with leg kicks, but it was ultimately a devastating knee injury that gave the former light heavyweight champion the win in UFC Vegas 54’s main event.

From the start of the fight, Blachowicz chipped away at Rakic with a series of nasty kicks to the calf, but as he pressed forward in the third round, the Austrian fighter took a step back and his knee just buckled. Rakic fell to the ground in obvious pain as the referee rushed in to stop the fight at 1:11 into the third round.

While it probably wasn’t the way he wanted to win, Blachowicz can still celebrate his victory as he vanquishes another top contender, with hopes that he’ll soon get the chance to compete for UFC gold again.

“This is what I expect,” Blachowicz said afterward. “The first round, something happened with my eye. But I feel the first round was really good. He has an injury, it is what it is. S*** happens sometimes. I cannot wait to step inside again. I hope the UFC gives me the next title shot.”

With a chance to make a statement in the light heavyweight division, both fighters came out firing early, with Rakic opening a cut under Blachowicz’s eye during the first exchange with a right hand straight down the middle. Undeterred, Blachowicz came right back at him with a left to the body followed by a huge right over the top that snapped Rakic’s head back.

That’s when Blachowicz also started targeting the lead leg with a series of devastating calf kicks, which immediate did damage as Rakic switched stances to stave off the constant attacks. The Polish powerhouse used the kicks to then set up his hands as he began making Rakic pay with his boxing combinations.

Blachowicz down, although he had to fight off a triangle choke attempt from the bottom. Once he escaped, however, Rakic started peppering away with punches from the top with Blachowicz stuck underneath him.

Rakic maintained control, dropping down occasional elbows and making Blachowicz defend off his back until the second round ended.

With a reset on the feet to start the third, Blachowicz once again targeted the leg and threw with tremendous force behind every kick. There was significant swelling and bruising on the front of Rakic’s calf, showing how much damage Blachowicz inflicted throughout the fight.

As Blachowicz stepped into another combination with his hands, Rakic backed up — and that’s when his knee seemed to just give out on him.

Replays showed what appeared to be his knee popping as Rakic landed on his back foot, which led to him falling to the ground in agonizing pain.

Following the fight, Blachowicz shared some words of encouragement with Rakic and promised that he would become a champion one day.

As for the result in the fight, Blachowicz gets the win as he looks to jump right back into title contention after falling to Glover Teixeira to lose the belt this past October.

With Teixeira already calling for a rematch in the future, Blachowicz was more than happy to accept, as he’ll now root for the Brazilian to get a win of his own over Jiri Prochazka in the UFC 275 main event in June.

Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk 2: New date, UK start time, TV channel, live stream for massive heavyweight rematch

ANTHONY JOSHUA and Oleksandr Usyk’s on-off re-match has been put back again – but promoters are honing in on a confirmed date.

Usyk was given the green light from Ukraine’s sports minister to have his second fight against AJ, following Russia’s invasion of his home country.

The fight had been plunged into doubt with Usyk joining the military in the defence of his home country.

All parties understood the situation – there are, after all, bigger things in the world than boxing.

Just like the Olympic gold medallist did after his loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019, Joshua wants to right his wrong by facing the Ukrainian in a rematch.

Usyk outpointed and largely outclassed a game Joshua in front of 70,000 fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last year to win the WBA, WBO, IBF & IBO world titles.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn admitted after that his client boxed nowhere near to the ability he would do in a potential rematch.

AJ, meanwhile, said the fight was a learning experience in the post-fight news conference, vowing to gain his vengeance on Usyk.

Since then, the two sides have been negotiating toward a huge money-spinning sequel, with a venue in the final stages of being decided.

It’s expected that the fight will take place in Saudi Arabia, with announcement expected soon.

Joshua will also have Angel Fernandez as the man in charge of his corner, having used the Spaniard as an assistant to Rob McCracken since the second Ruiz Jr fight.

When is Joshua vs Usyk 2?

  • Joshua vs Usyk 2 has yet to be confirmed with a concrete date – although it is understood to be in July.
  • According to reports, the new date is set to be July 23 – but this is unconfirmed.
  • But Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine had thrown the entire bout into doubt with Usyk involved in the war effort, but he has told ministers he wants to get into a training camp for the bout.
  • That would also open up the opportunity for Joshua vs Usyk 2 to take place in an outdoor stadium in the UK.

What channel is it and can it be live streamed?

  • Joshua’s last fight with Usyk with shown live on Sky Sports Box Office for a price of £24.95.
  • It’s unclear which channel the rematch will take place on, but expect Matchroom’s broadcast partners DAZN to bid aggressively for the rights to the fight in the UK.
  • DAZN costs £7.99 to subscribe to in the UK, but the streaming service are likely to add a pay-per-view arm to their model this year.

Mike Tyson will NOT face criminal charges for brutally beating up plane passenger because of ‘conduct of the victim’

BOXING legend Mike Tyson won’t face any criminal charges for his scrap with an airline passenger due to the “conduct of the victim”.

The former undisputed heavyweight champion repeatedly punched Melvin George Townsend III on a JetBlue flight last month.

Footage shot by a fellow passenger showed Tyson, 55, laying into Townsend, who was left battered and bruised.

Additional video captured before the incident showed Townsend – who allegedly threw a bottle at Tyson – repeatedly goading the retired boxer.

And San Mateo County District Attorney has taken Townsend’s actions before the melee into account and opted not to bring any charges against Iron Mike.

Despite hiring a lawyer and looking poised to press charges, Townsend decided against bringing a case against the beloved Tyson.

San Mateo County D.A. Stephen Wagstaffe told TMZ “the conduct of the victim leading up to the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of both the victim and Mr. Tyson” led to no charges being filed.

Tyson has yet to comment on the latest development regarding the viral incident, although his legal team have issued a statement.

It read: “We thank San Mateo District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County Sheriff, and all law enforcement agencies involved in this investigation for their careful, diligent, and professional work.”

Tyson is now in the clear to resume his exhibition career, which he kicked off with a clash with Roy Jones Jr in November 2020.

A shock showdown with YouTuber Jake Paul has been mooted.

And The Baddest Man on the Planet plans to hold talks with the social media star to discuss the potentially lucrative bout.

During an appearance on Bill Maher’s podcast, he said: “I’m going to call him sometime on Friday and we’re going to talk.”

Asked if he would accept the fight, he replied: “Absolutely.”

Should the fight come to fruition, Tyson will be sure not to underestimate the youngest Paul brother – who flatlined former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in his last outing.

He recently said: “I don’t even look at him the way, I can’t even say what they call him.

“Yeah, he’s a fighter. But they don’t want to credit him as being a fighter. Because he’s f***ing white with blue eyes and blonde hair.

“I don’t know, white people hate blue eyes and blonde hair, everybody wants to kill them.

“But he can fight. That’s his thing, everybody wants to kick his ass. Every nationality wants to kick his ass.

“He p***es everybody off. But he’s a great salesman, great, great salesman. He’s a great promoter and he doesn’t even know it.”
