CONOR BENN was taken to hospital for precautionary checks after suffering the first stoppage defeat of his career against Ryan Garcia.
Benn’s WBC welterweight title challenge ended in just two rounds in Las Vegas, with Garcia dropping him with a sharp right hand before forcing the referee to intervene.
The defeat came during Benn’s return to 147lbs, with the Brit having endured a demanding weight cut ahead of the fight. He was taken to hospital afterwards for further medical checks.
Dana White backed the decision to send fighters for treatment after heavy defeats, saying safety must come first.
Benn later broke his silence on social media, refusing to make excuses for the loss.
He wrote: “Not my night, no excuses. @RyanGarcia you’re a great champion.”
Garcia successfully defended the WBC title he won from Mario Barrios earlier this year and immediately began looking towards his next challenge.
The American called out Teofimo Lopez before also suggesting another meeting with Devin Haney could be on the cards.
