Paddy Pimblett handed medical suspension after brutal UFC 324 loss to Justin Gaethje

Paddy Pimblett is set to serve a medical suspension following his punishing five-round defeat to Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 in Las Vegas. The Liverpudlian fell short in his bid to become just the fourth British fighter to win a UFC title, losing the interim lightweight championship bout by unanimous decision.

The 31-year-old endured a grueling contest in which he was dropped twice, suffered significant facial damage and was cut open during the fight. As a result of the beating absorbed from Gaethje, Pimblett was taken to hospital for further medical evaluation after the event. He was later cleared and went on to attend an afterparty at Zouk nightclub at Resorts World.

Despite avoiding serious injury, the Nevada Athletic Commission has issued Pimblett a minimum 30-day medical suspension under Section 467.562 of the Nevada Administrative Code, which requires fighters to be suspended until they are deemed fit to compete again. While a 30-day suspension is standard, the commission retains the right to extend the ban up to 180 days due to the nature of the damage sustained. The suspension could be lifted earlier if Pimblett passes additional medical tests and receives doctor clearance.

Gaethje, who became a two-time interim lightweight champion with the victory, is also set to serve a standard 30-day suspension.

Speaking after the fight, Pimblett showed respect for his opponent and confidence in his future. “I wanted to be walking away with that belt,” he said. “I know how tough I am. There’s no other man I’d rather lose to than Justin Gaethje – it shows why he’s a legend. You live and you learn. I’m 31, I’ll be back better. You haven’t seen the last of me.”

Despite the setback, Pimblett’s durability and determination across all 25 minutes ensured his reputation remained intact, even in defeat.
