Conor Benn has fired another verbal shot at Ryan Garcia as the countdown continues to their WBC welterweight title fight in Las Vegas next month.
The British contender accused Garcia of lacking the toughness traditionally associated with Mexican boxing, despite the champion proudly embracing his Mexican heritage throughout his career.
Benn, who is fluent in Spanish after spending many years living in Mallorca, has also been using the language during the build-up to their fight, admitting he enjoys getting under Garcia’s skin.
The 29-year-old said he has huge respect for Mexican boxing and described the country’s fighters as fearless competitors who have built a reputation for their heart, determination and willingness to fight anyone.
While the pre-fight exchanges have intensified in recent weeks, Benn admitted his rivalry with Garcia is different from the personal feud he previously shared with Chris Eubank Jr.
Instead, the former undefeated contender insists his sole focus is capturing the WBC welterweight title and following in the footsteps of his father, Nigel Benn, by becoming a world champion.
Garcia has also promised fireworks, with both fighters needing to be separated during a heated face-off last month as tensions continue to rise ahead of their September 12 showdown.
