Lee Reeves was taken to hospital after suffering a frightening knockout loss to Gary Cully in a dramatic all-Irish showdown in Dublin.
The pair produced a thrilling contest before Cully landed a perfectly timed left hand in the closing stages of the 10th and final round to end the fight in devastating fashion.
Reeves, who had enjoyed plenty of success throughout the bout, remained down after the punch and received immediate medical attention in the ring before being placed on a stretcher and transported to hospital for further assessment.
Promoter Frank Warren later confirmed Reeves was receiving treatment and said everyone at Queensberry was hoping for positive news as they remained in contact with his team.
Rather than celebrating his biggest victory, Cully immediately expressed concern for his opponent and praised Reeves for producing an outstanding performance.
The victory saw Cully claim the vacant BUI Celtic super-lightweight title and improve his professional record, although the result was overshadowed by concerns for Reeves’ health.
The event’s main event also produced a major upset, with Portsmouth’s Mark Chamberlain stopping Pierce O’Leary in the 10th round to hand the Irishman the first defeat of his professional career and claim the IBO super-lightweight world title.
