Ronda Rousey to end decade-long retirement for blockbuster MMA return

Ronda Rousey is set to return to MMA later this year, nearly ten years after stepping away from the sport following her 2016 defeat to Amanda Nunes.

The former UFC champion has agreed to face fellow pioneer Gina Carano in a Los Angeles event scheduled for May 16. The bout will take place under Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions banner and is expected to stream live on Netflix.

Rousey said the fight had been a long time coming and described it as one of the biggest matchups in women’s combat sports history.

Carano, who has not competed in MMA for almost 17 years, called the opportunity an honour and said she expects a tough contest. Both fighters are considered key figures in the growth of women’s mixed martial arts.
