Sean O’Malley is set to return to the Octagon this weekend, taking on Song Yadong in the co-main event of UFC 324. The highly anticipated bout comes as part of the first UFC event of the year, headlined by an interim lightweight title clash between Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje.
After a challenging period in 2025, O’Malley is looking to reset and re-establish himself among the elite of the bantamweight division. “Suga Sean” suffered back-to-back losses to Merab Dvalishvili in title fights, marking the first losing streak of his professional career. Since then, the 31-year-old has taken time to reflect and refocus, with a strong performance on Saturday potentially putting him back in the title conversation.
A win over Song Yadong could open the door to a rematch with newly crowned bantamweight champion Petr Yan, who claimed the belt in December. O’Malley and Yan share history, having fought three years ago, when O’Malley earned a narrow decision victory. Another standout performance could be enough to convince UFC president Dana White to book that high-profile rematch.
Standing in his way is fifth-ranked contender Song Yadong, one of the most dangerous and consistent fighters in the 135-pound division. Yadong has built a reputation as a tough matchup for anyone, with notable victories over Marlon Vera, Marlon Moraes and former champion Henry Cejudo. A win for either fighter would significantly strengthen their case for a future title shot.
UFC 324 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with O’Malley vs Yadong serving as a key attraction on a stacked fight card that promises major implications across multiple divisions.
