Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has accepted his defeat to Terence Crawford with humility, choosing instead to focus on gratitude for his family and team. The Mexican boxing superstar saw his reign as super-middleweight champion come to an end after Crawford produced a masterclass performance to claim a unanimous decision victory in Las Vegas.
Despite losing his belts for the first time since 2018, Canelo, 35, remained philosophical. In an emotional Instagram post, he thanked his wife Fernanda Gómez for her unwavering support throughout his journey: “I’m very proud of everything I’ve accomplished so far; you always want to win, but I accept this defeat with humility and learning. Finally, thanks to Fernanda, my wife, for her patience and not letting go of my hand during this whole process.”
Canelo was consoled ringside by Fernanda and their daughter Mia, just one month after the couple welcomed their newborn baby, Eva Victoria. He stressed that family, not belts, defines his success: “I already won because I have my family with me and millions of fans who have never stopped supporting me. No matter what, I still feel a champion.”
Crawford’s historic victory cemented his place in the record books as the first boxer to become undisputed champion in three different weight classes. The undefeated American, now 42-0, also added a fifth division title to his glittering résumé.
For Canelo, the defeat has opened space for reflection. While he has not yet committed to his next step in boxing, he admitted he wants to take time to enjoy life at home: “Tonight was an opportunity to learn and to evolve. I want to enjoy my family. My daughter is a month old, and I just want to be able to enjoy and see what comes next.”
Though the belts are gone, Canelo Alvarez remains a winner in the eyes of his loved ones and millions of fans worldwide.
