Groves Predicts Joshua vs Fury in October with Rematch to Follow

Former world champion George Groves believes Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are finally on course to face each other in October, with a rematch likely in 2026.

Despite Fury announcing his retirement for the fourth time in January following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, Groves suspects the “Gypsy King” is simply waiting for the right financial offer. “There must be a number that makes it worthwhile for both guys,” Groves told Sky Sports. “I’m pretty sure they’ll box in September, October, rematch next year.”

Joshua, 35, is currently recovering from elbow surgery after a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last September, while Fury, 36, has stayed out of the ring since his rematch defeat to Usyk.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has hinted at a potential two-fight deal with Fury in 2026, but Groves believes the pair should skip any tune-ups. “If I was either guy, I’d just fight each other and that’s it. No more risks. Stuff goes wrong in camp or even on fight night.”

With both fighters coming off defeats and facing uncertainty, fans could finally witness the long-awaited Battle of Britain later this year.
