Josh Taylor Apologizes After Defeat

Josh Taylor has issued a heartfelt apology to fans after storming out of the ring following his points defeat to Ekow Essuman in Glasgow. The bout marked Taylor’s welterweight debut and his first fight in over a year under Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions banner.

The former undisputed super-lightweight champion was visibly frustrated with the scorecards and left the ring without an interview or acknowledging the 13,000-strong home crowd. In a social media post, Taylor said: “I just want to apologise for leaving the ring early. I didn’t want to say something in the heat of the moment that I’d later regret on live TV.”

He added, “Your support means the world to me. Despite the result, last night was another special moment in my life.”

Taylor, 34, has now suffered three consecutive defeats, following losses to Teofimo Lopez and Jack Catterall. Despite the setback, he remains determined: “I’ll be back in the gym in a couple of weeks. One fight a year since 2020 isn’t enough. I need to stay active.”

With a swollen eye and a bruised face, Taylor still showed sportsmanship: “Congrats to Ekow and his team. He fought well. I’d love to do it again, but he’s earned the right to move on to bigger things.”

Though his career faces uncertainty, Taylor insists he’s far from done: “I’ll be back.”
