Jake Paul is set to return to the boxing ring on birželio 28 d. in Anaheim, California, for a high-stakes clash against former WBC champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The fight could pave the way for Paul’s shock world title shot, according to Oscar De La Hoya.
De La Hoya, who promotes WBA and WBO cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez, hinted that Paul might face the titleholder next if he beats Chavez Jr. “Maybe that’s [Paul’s] path to the world title. We’ll see,” he told BoxingScene.
Paul hasn’t fought since his controversial win over 58-year-old Mike Tyson in lapkričio mėn., a bout that drew over 100 million viewers on Netflix. Now boasting an 11-1 record, his only loss remains a split-decision defeat to Tommy Fury.
Chavez Jr., the son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., once held the WBC middleweight belt and fought Canelo Alvarez in a 2017 PPV headliner. After suffering an embarrassing loss to Anderson Silva in 2021, he’s bounced back with two wins, including one on Paul’s undercard last summer.
“Chavez is a real fight,” De La Hoya said. “I believe he is a real threat to Jake Paul.”
