This weekend, the Xiaomi Arena (Riga Arena) will host the King of Kings World Series, a global combat sports event that will bring together the strongest fighters from Latvia and abroad.
In the evening’s main event, Latvia’s most known kickboxer, Zaurs Dzhavadovs, will fight for the King of Kings middleweight world championship title against Estonian Hendrik Temas. The two previously faced off in 2022 in Hendrik’s home country, Estonia, where Dzhavadovs secured victory in the fourth round with a knockout. Now, Temas has demanded a rematch, which will take place in Dzhavadovs territory—Latvia.
An intriguing boxing match awaits between Kristaps Zutis and Juris Zundovskis. The two were once training partners and friends, but tensions have since risen between them. As a result, both fighters are taking this bout personally and promise an intense, no-compromise showdown.
A major surprise for fight fans is the unexpected MMA comeback of Latvian combat sports star Edgars Skrivers. In 2018, Skrivers transitioned from MMA to karate and competed in Karate Combat. Until recently, he was under contract with the organization, which prevented him from fighting elsewhere, but now, as a free agent, he has decided to return to MMA. This weekend, he is set to face former Latvian champion Roberts Skujiņs, who announced his retirement last November after defeating Ukrainian Maksym Soroka. However, for the opportunity to fight Skrivers, Skujiņs is willing to step back into the ring for one more match.
The King of Kings event in Riga will feature many more exciting and intense fights, with well-known Latvian fighters such as Artjoms Ramlavs, Kārlis Akimovs, Staņislavs Makarenko, Rāgners Džigurs, Reinis Porozovs, and Igors Trošins, as well as international athletes such as J. Gezius, Samuelis and Benas Sorochovai, T. Markus and many more.
