WWE star and ex-UFX fighter Matt Riddle beat Jon Jones TWICE in wrestling before Bones was octagon icon for Dana White

WWE star Matt Riddle has TWO wins over UFC legend Jon Jones while the pair were high-school wrestlers.

Riddle, who competes back in the cage with Daniel Cormier as referee at WWE’s Extreme Rules tonight, attended Saratoga Springs High School, New York where he won the state division wrestling championship in 2004.

Jones, who represented Union-Endicott High School, competed against the future pro wrestler at one of these state-level wrestling tournaments.

Riddle later revealed in an interview on the X-Pac 12360 podcast, that he beat Jones TWICE and wanted to go against him once more.

He said: “I did. Actually two different occasions. But Jon Jones, he’s grown up a little bit. I’ve grown up a little bit.

“I’d still like to challenge him one day, but we’ll see what happens.”

Riddle featured in the UFC’s ‘Ultimate Fighter’ series in 2008 but was beaten by Tim Credeur in the quarter-finals.

He would later have 12 fights in the UFC, but after failing two drug tests for marijuana within one year he was released from the promotion in 2013.

Riddle gave up his MMA career in 2014 before making his name on the independent pro wrestling.

It caught the eye of WWE royalty Triple H, who signed the American to NXT, and within two years he graduated into the WWE main roster.

Despite Riddle’s rise to stardom since White sacked him, the UFC president insisted he has no regrets about letting him go.

When quizzed about Riddle, the promoter replied: “No, listen, I have no regrets.

“You know, I’ve heard interviews with Matt Riddle and he’s very fired up about being let go and everything. But at that place and that time where we were, it was the right move.

“I’m happy for him, I’m happy he’s been successful and is doing well and I don’t wish the kid any ill will.

“I don’t hate Matt Riddle or dislike Matt Riddle in any way. I know he feels the opposite…as he should. But yeah, I don’t wish him any ill will or anything like that. I don’t regret the decision I made at that time.”

Despite the incident being just over seven years ago, Riddle was in no mood to forget.

And he laid the smack down on White with a blistering response to his comments.

Riddle wrote in 2019: “Dana I’m not mad that you fired me I’m mad because you’re a heartless moron with to much money and power and felt the need to call me a loser after you fired me when I was on a 4 fight win streak and had my 3rd child almost bankrupting me.

“Also to say it was the right call to fire me is the dumbest thing ever, you literally tried to ruin my career/life because your a little bald b**** that couldn’t control me, so stop lying it’s sad bro.”
