Mike Coppinger reports that Saunders is being examined for a “suspected broken right orbital bone.”
A stoppage in the corner — and it’s been noted Saunders’ team pulled the plug there, it wasn’t stopped by the referee on advice from the doctor but because Saunders’ corner halted it — is always going to bring out some harsh judgment in boxing, and not just from loud fans or media people, either.
A lot of pros are being loudly critical of Saunders (30-1, 14 KO) “quitting” in the corner on the injury, some of them pretty harsh about it. But there’s also just a lot of praise out there for Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KO), who now has the WBC, WBA, and WBO titles at 168 lbs.
